At first glance, Titanfall can be quite overwhelming. Some simple and effective tips will help things go smoothly.
12 Ways to Improve Your K/D in Titanfall
1. Practice Parkouring
A great way to do well is to learn quick paths around the maps. It is a lot easier to shoot down on people than it is to be looking all around the map. This also helps for claiming objectives (domination points and for the flag), escaping from a bad situation, hunting others, and keeping titans on their toes (poke out from a location and poke titans with a few rockets).
2.Farming and Poking
In order to get titans quickly, it is best to do as much damage as you can. This includes grunts, pilots, spectres, titans, and other monsters. If you have the chance to deal damage from a safe location, do it. Shoot a titan with a rocket to speed your titanfall dramatically. Pick off the AI players with grenades or a few shots. These simple but effective tips get you in your war machine much faster, which leads to more kills and a better team.
3. Take Down Titans
Don’t let an enemy titan run around for too long. If an ally is fighting it, then jump in or jump on (the titan). They are easy to take down when your team focuses on them, but if ignored, it will pick apart your team. Also, the arc grenades are wonderful for disorienting a titan. If you are on a rooftop nearby a titan battle, toss a grenade to help out.
4. Keep Your Shields Up
As a titan, you are more fragile than you might believe. Use your shields, and always have an exit strategy. When your shield is nearly depleted, bail. A few boosts can easily get you out of a tight situation. This will allow you to earn your “core” bonus, which can change the tide of any battle.
5. Kill the Pilot (as Titan)
When you are having a battle titan v titan, it is extremely helpful to melee in order to kill the pilot. Especially, in Last Titan Standing. It takes some getting use to for the timing. Just as the titan becomes “doomed” (all their base health is gone), then lunge forward with your boost and melee. This should pull the pilot out before he can eject. You can melee them from the front or the back to kill the pilot.
6. Critical Hits
Always go for crits. This applies to killing any unit. For pilots, try to aim at their upper chest (heart). This way, if you miss by a little, it still is a kill. Most importantly, this applies to killing titans. When have a spot that glows red, it will do massive damage if you strike there.
7. Be a Ten Ton Distraction
Although the AI titans are not amazing, they can be wonderful distractions. If you are trying to sneak by the other team or stall something out for an objective, call in a titan. Everyone will focus on it, so you can focus on them. This is a great way to give your flag carrier some time to escape or to help your team hold down a capture point. (If someone has their titan on guard mode doing this, be sure to call your titan in on top of them for a quick free kill).
It is dangerous to board other titans, but doing so can save your team. While you are killing the titan, be sure to switch to your pistol instead of reloading your primary weapon. This saves time. Also, if you see that they have bailed from the titan, make sure you jump off too. They will be disoriented, so you should have the upper hand, but be careful since the auto-titan may kill you, so try to bail onto a roof or something with cover. Also, if someone boards you and you are about to be killed by them, re-enter your titan. You will be invincible during the animation process.
9. Build a Loadout That Suits You
If you notice that you are mostly indoors for close range battles, then go for the shotgun or SMG. This may seem like an obvious tip, but pay attention to how you most often die. This is especially true for titans. If you tend to be in the front lines as a titan, you may want to go with a chain-gun or rockets and the nuke perk to get as much from your loadout as you are able.
Talk. Tell your teammates and friends where you are going to be, where you saw a pilot, and most importantly, where you saw an enemy titan. This is often the most ignored tip. Good communication can allow you to destroy the other team quickly by focusing on one player at a time. It allows you to do infinitely better in object games too. Pick up your headset and start talking. It makes the community much friendlier in the process.
11. Burn Cards
Use the burn cards frequently. You will notice that they stack up quickly, so there is no need to be froogle. They can be especially nice at the start of a game. Simply press Y when you are in the dropship to select your card.
12. Stay Alive After Death
While your titan is doomed, make sure you eject in time. If you are near an enemy titan while you are doomed, keep your distance by boosting or eject straight away. This will prevent them grabbing you out of your titan and killing you.
