In order to play Titanfall or any other upcoming game without delay, it is important to update your controllers. Any new stereo headset made for the Xbox One requires that you perform this update so that they may be used. This is required if you are using a Turtlebeach headset or any other new stereo headset. It takes only moments, but if you have to do it after you get Titanfall, those could be some agonizing moments. The update also makes the controller better suited for games (especially shooters). Overall, this process should take no more than 5 minutes.
Steps to Update
1. Sign into Xbox Live
2. Remove Batteries
Pop off the back casing and take both out the batteries/ the play and charge pack. This does not seem like a vital step, but Xbox cited that it is recommended.
3. Plug Controller Into Xbox
This requires a micro USB that can be from a phone or any other device that uses them (play and charge kit). Plug the big end into the Xbox One and the little guy into the controller.
4. Plug in Headset (only necessary for stereo headsets)
5. Go to Settings
This should be on the bottom-middle of the home page.
6. Click System
Will be on the right-hand side.
7. Update Controller
Lastly, this option will be the bottom one on the list.
8. Rinse and Repeat if Necessary
If you have more than one controller, you can plug it in and update it from the same menu after the first one is finished.
Is It Required?
Technically, no, but your headset won’t work… soooooo…..
Why Not Update?
The update is primarily made for new stereo headsets, but it does not prevent one from updating without a headset. Therefore, we figure, why not update? In February, they controllers were automatically updated at the request of Respawn, the makers of Titanfall. This update made the the joysticks more sensitive. This may be a continuation of that process in order to maximize everyone’s experience for Titanfall, which is crucial to the console’s success. Little information has been shared by Microsoft regarding the exact details for their updates. This is a bit odd, and it has caused a fair bit of confusion.
Will This be a Frequent Thing?
A lot of people are complaining about having to update their controllers, but the it is such a simple inconvenience, which is why it should be overlooked even if it is a semi-regular process. Updates should never been seen as a negative. It shows that people care and are working towards bettering their product.
Choosing a Next-Gen Headset
There are lots of options for choosing your headset. Most are a bit on the expensive side. Especially when you throw batteries into the equation. If you never owned a stereo headset, we recommend that you treat yourself and get one. If you already have one, go for the adapter or “adapt” it yourself. There are lots of videos out there that show you how, but the videos assume you have a soldering gun, which are not the cheapest things either. Plus, the whole risk of sneezing and burning your man/lady bits or setting your house ablaze.
